Decoding The Wall
How to Choose the Right Rope from the Wall at your Local Chandlery
In my last post, Load and Leads, I discussed how to determine how strong your running rigging must be to survive. Knowing the tensile strength requirement is the first step in specifying running rigging but understanding how the rope delivers that tensile strength is equally important. We are going to dive deep into how a rope’s characteristics relate to its performance.
What is Rope?
Let’s start with the basics, what is rope? All ropes start with fibers - synthetic fibers these days – fibers are combined to make strands, and the strands are combined (twisted or braided) into rope.
